Let’s Get Salon-Ready for Returning to Work!
Summer's winding down and it's time to get ready for a busy season at the salon.
Hygiene must be perfect - create an environment where the client feels comfortable and safe.
After vacation, we are often full of creativity and energy, ready to make some positive changes in our workplace. This is often the time when we renovate our salon, enhance the space, bring in some new details, rearrange the layout, and, of course, restock our supplies so that we can be ready to start the busy season!
The first impression we make on clients when they enter the salon is very important - this is where we start earning our points! What is the first thing that comes to mind when we go into the salon? Hygiene and safety.

The Importance of Salon Hygiene
After summer ends (which is now in many parts of the world), there is a higher concentration of clients going through salons.
Hygiene is fundamental for ensuring the safety and health of both clients and people who work in salon. Special attention must be given to disinfection, the use of disposable tools, and protecting everyone involved in treatments, especially those that involve contact with blood.
Disinfection is the process of removing or destroying microorganisms that can be harmful to health. In salons, where people are in close contact, the risk of infection transmission is increased, so the act of disinfecting is an effective way to significantly reduce the risk of infection.
Disinfection includes not only work surfaces but also all tools used in treatments. Because of that, disposable tools are not only a good option when you want to save time on disinfection for next client, but their biggest benefit is that they keep everybody safe. By using these tools, the possibility of transmitting pathogenic microorganisms between clients is reduced. A salon using single-use tools has significantly fewer infections than salons who use reusable tools but are not able to sterilize them thoroughly. Contact with blood carries a high risk of transmitting diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B, and C, so it is necessary to use protective gloves, masks, and sterile needles to avoid this and keep everyone safe. Disposable tools play a crucial role in preventing cross-contamination.
PMU cartridges are used up to three times per treatment, with different configurations needed for different effects. It is important that you have enough PMU cartridges on hand for each of your PMU specializations and for every client.

Slippers in salons have a special role in maintaining hygiene. The shoes we wear outside bring in bacteria, viruses, and dirt that can be transferred to work surfaces. By using slippers, the introduction of potentially harmful microorganisms into the salon is reduced, further lowering the risk of infections. The number of bacteria on salon floors can be reduced by over 50% when clients use slippers instead of outdoor shoes - so it is a quick step that makes a huge difference!
Maintaining a high level of hygiene in salons is not only a legal obligation, but also an ethical responsibility towards clients. With proper disinfection, using single-use tools, wearing slippers, and consistently following protective measures, we ensure the safety and satisfaction of everyone involved in treatments.
Always stock up on hygiene products in your salon to keep everything clean - from start to finish.
Where To Get Started?
A great way to start is deep cleaning! Sterilize all instruments and work surfaces thoroughly. Use high-grade disinfectants approved for salon use to ensure that every tool used in treatments is safe and hygienic. Our go-to Phi Septo is a universal, multi-purpose cleaning spray that contains mild, biodegradable active ingredients and basil extract. It can be used for cleaning various surfaces, without leaving annoying streaks everywhere.
We have a Heat Gun with Protective Sleeves that match sizes of various appliances, as well as PhiBarrier Film for an extra layer of hygienic protection of surfaces. The Heat Gun is specialized in vacuuming a certain universal film around any tool or machine, which provides additional protection for everyone, and leaves the tool clean after removing the film.
Opt for high-quality PMU pigments. High-quality pigments can provide better application, retention and less fading. This is especially important when touching up previous PMU treatments after sun exposure.
Check the condition of your pigments as well; it's important to store them in a cold and dark place to get the best treatment outcomes when used. PhiAcademy has taken a step to make this easier for you and developed a specialized fridge (coming soon)!
Think of products which you will need. Disinfecting wipes, makeup removers, aftercare options - you know best what your fave products are.
No matter what treatment you do in your salon, make sure you always have a supply of essential hygiene products.
A few changes to the salon - even some small details - can bring a breath of fresh air to your workplace, which clients will notice. Besides, refreshing a place is nice for everybody. Even just changing the layout can be a very positive change and it may help improve your workflow. Is there anything you could do to better organize the tools you use for treatments?
Make sure that your most-used items are easily accessible, and always have a disinfectant at hand. Try to have as much natural light as possible, always have waste disposal boxes available, especially medical ones, and provide a comfortable place where your clients can wait for their treatment…
Client Consultations
Now is the time to update consultation forms to include more comprehensive health questions. This is a great choice at any point of the year, but post-summer, questions can be crafted to understand skin changes like increased sensitivity or pigmentation issues. Be sure to pass on handy tips for optimal skincare routines, as well as the importance of proper aftercare to get the most out of salon treatments.
As we close this chapter on getting ready for autumn, remember that each client who walks through your doors brings a new opportunity to showcase your expertise and passion for beauty. Stay inspired, keep learning, and continue to upgrade your skills. With the right tools, techniques, and a positive mindset, there’s no limit to what you can achieve this season.
We're here to support you every step of the way!
