The Phi Patch Test is a method to determine if a substance that comes into contact with the skin (a product used during treatment) causes any kind of inflammation or allergic reaction.

Performing an epicutaneous test for skin allergies

Any cosmetic product can cause skin reactions in certain people. Possible reactions include redness and itching at the application site. Cosmetic products can also inflame existing skin conditions or, less commonly, cause more serious reactions such as infections, scars, allergies or changes in skin pigment.

The Cosmetic Sensitivity Epicutaneous Test is an ideal hypoallergenic product used to perform an allergy test for a variety of cosmetic products. The epicutaneous test allows you to determine in advance whether a cosmetic product may cause irritation, so that you can avoid using such a product.

The epicutaneous test is not recommended for clients taking cortisone/prednisolone or immunosuppressive medications as the results of the epicutaneous test may be invalid.

How to use
STEP I. Clean a small area of skin on the crook or back of the arm (forearm). Apply a small amount of the products you wish to test into the separate patch holes, noting the order. (Example: Hole 1 - Pigment, Hole 2 - Highlighter, Hole 3 - PhiBrows Block Tonic, Hole 4 - Anaesthetic, Hole 5- Skin Candy After Care Balm and Hole 6 - another product). When the cleansed skin area is dry, apply the patch. STEP 2. Send the client home with instructions to return in 48 hours. The client should not remove the patch in the meantime and should watch the skin area around the patch. The client should also be careful not to get the patch wet when showering or doing activities that cause heavy sweating. The client should also not expose the patch to the sun. Instruct the client to remove the patch immediately if they experience any unbearable burning or itching sensation. In this case, the client should immediately wash the treated area and seek medical attention. STEP 3. When the client comes in for the follow-up appointment 48 hours later, examine the skin for the results of theEpicutaneous Test ANALYSIS OF THE EPICUTANEOUS TEST RESULTS.The results can be either positive or negative. A positive skin test may mean that your client is sensitive to one of the products applied. Larger rashes usually indicate greater sensitivity. A negative skin test means that your client is unlikely to be sensitive to the products applied. RESULTSNo reaction (no redness, swelling, itching) - Negative skin test. There is no sign of irritation or sensitivity after the epicutaneous test. Mild to moderate or severe reaction (redness, swelling, itching) - Positive skin test. If the skin test is negative (no reaction present), you can continue using the tested cosmetic product. If the skin test is positive (redness, swelling or itching present), you should not continue using the cosmetic product or treatment. Advise your client to consult a doctor before continuing with the treatment. If a severe reaction occurs after the epicutaneous test, advise your client to see a doctor as soon as possible.
